Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has issued a public notice instructing eight cooperative institutions to pay outstanding house rent within seven days. The notice was published by the Law and Human Rights Department of the metropolis.
According to the notice, the decision follows resolutions made by the Judicial Committee of KMC regarding the vacating of rented houses and rooms. Based on a decision taken by the Decision Implementation Committee on 2082/10/15 (BS), the public notice has been issued to enforce earlier rulings that require cooperatives to vacate rented premises.
KMC Cooperative Department Chief Mahesh Kumar Kafle stated that office bearers, employees, and members of the cooperatives listed in the notice must contact the Law and Human Rights Department of KMC within seven days from the date of publication of the notice.
If the concerned representatives fail to make contact within the stipulated time, the rented houses and rooms occupied by the cooperatives will be vacated in accordance with the Judicial Committee’s decision. The notice further states that while vacating the premises, the belongings of the cooperative offices will be handed over to the respective landlords, and no future claims or objections regarding cooperative property or materials will be entertained.
The cooperatives named in the notice include Asha Saving and Credit Cooperative Limited in Ward No. 31; Nava Sabal and Sandup Cooperative Limited and Suntakhal Saving and Credit Cooperative in Ward No. 6; Unified Saving and Credit Cooperative operating in Ward No. 17; Mahabauddha Saving and Credit Cooperative in Ward No. 22; Great Gangasagar Saving and Credit Cooperative in Ward No. 32; and Prarambhik Saving and Credit Cooperative Limited operating in Ward No. 10.
KMC stated that it has been receiving complaints from landlords after cooperative operators went into hiding for a long time without paying rent and locking their offices. The metropolis has initiated this process through a public notice as part of efforts to resolve such complaints.
