Construction of a landslide prevention plan has begun on the Myagdi section of the Beni–Jomsom–Korala road under the Kaligandaki Corridor, which connects China and India. The Beni–Jomsom–Korala Road Project Office has started the plan with an estimated cost of NPR 250 million to control landslides and river erosion affecting the road.
Frequent landslides and erosion have been causing regular disruptions to traffic along the corridor. According to Sub-Engineer Bahadur Shah of the project office, the construction companies awarded the contracts have already been mobilized with a target to complete the work within the current fiscal year.
The landslide and erosion control works are being carried out in several areas including Lower and Upper Baisari of Raghuganga Rural Municipality–2, Nagdhunga, Guithebhir, Khambhitta, Latokhola, Rupse, Setokhola, and the Larchung section. Techniques such as rock anchoring, plum walls, bio-engineering, and the thidimes method are being used to prevent landslides.
In Annapurna Rural Municipality–3, a contract worth NPR 70 million has been awarded to Bamti/Konda/Tista JV to control landslides along a 300-meter stretch in the Khambhitta area. Similarly, Guithebhir section of the same municipality, covering another 300 meters, has been contracted to GSPL/Buddhisara JV at a cost of NPR 90 million. Landslide prevention works in the Latokhola, Rupse, Nagdhunga, and Setokhola sections have been awarded to Gajendra Nirman Sewa for NPR 70 million.
