Cardamom exports increased by 33 percent in the first quarter (Shrawan–Ashoj) of the current fiscal year 2082/83. According to data from the Department of Customs, exports of cardamom grew compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year.
As per the department, Nepal exported 1,072 metric tons of cardamom worth NPR 1.67 billion (1,67,91,75,000) by the month of Ashoj in the current fiscal year 2082/83. This export figure is 33 percent higher than during the same period last year.
In the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year 2081/82, Nepal had exported cardamom worth only NPR 1.26 billion along with 783 metric tons in volume. Cardamom is one of Nepal’s major export commodities.
The department further stated that during the first quarter, Nepal’s import share in international trade decreased by 4.96 percent to 86.54 percent, while the export share increased by 50.47 percent to 13.46 percent.
