The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index witnessed a double-digit decline on the first trading day of the week. On Sunday, the benchmark index dropped by 19.85 points to settle at 2,694.20.
According to NEPSE, a total of 22,060,454 shares of 329 companies were traded through 110,728 transactions, generating a total turnover of Rs 9.10 billion. Among all sectoral indices, only the trading group posted a gain, rising by 0.55 percent, while all other sector indices closed in the red.
The banking sector declined by 0.42 percent, development banks by 0.75 percent, finance by 0.44 percent, hotels and tourism by 1.75 percent, hydropower by 1.36 percent, and the investment group by 0.96 percent. Likewise, life insurance fell by 0.52 percent, manufacturing and processing by 0.76 percent, microfinance by 0.57 percent, mutual funds by 0.50 percent, non-life insurance by 0.63 percent, and the others group by 0.92 percent.
Shares of Mithila Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited recorded the highest gain of the day, rising by 9.70 percent. Meanwhile, Corporate Development Bank Limited hit the negative circuit breaker.
In terms of both transaction value and number of shares traded, Aankhukhola Hydropower Company Limited led the market, with shares worth Rs 552.24 million exchanged, totaling 1,746,924 shares.
