Srijana Oli (Sirju), a solo traveler from Rukum West whose name was included in the closed proportional representation list of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) from Karnali Province for the upcoming House of Representatives election, has announced that she has withdrawn her candidacy.
Writing a status on Facebook on Wednesday, Oli said that although she understands politics, she does not wish to enter active politics at this time and has therefore withdrawn her name from the proportional closed list.
Oli, who is widely known as a solo traveler active in promoting tourism in Dhorpatan, Rukum and the wider Karnali region, had been included in the RSP proportional list through the Balen team.
Clarifying the matter, Oli admitted that her decision to accept the proposal from the Balen team was made in haste and confirmed that she has now formally withdrawn her name.
In her Facebook post, she stated that the proposal was not based on any political background or party contribution, but rather on her long-term work in promoting tourism in remote and lesser-known destinations such as Humla, Dolpa, Mugu, Rukum, Dhorpatan, the Sinja Valley, Bhojpur and Khotang, and her direct engagement with local communities.
Acknowledging that questions raised about vision, agenda and opportunism after her name appeared on the proportional list were natural, Oli made it clear that she will not be entering politics at present.
