Youth leaders of the Nepali Congress have warned the party leadership to immediately decide on holding the Special General Convention.
They delivered a clear message that if the Central Committee fails to decide on the convention, they will seek an alternative path.
During a gathering of youth leaders supporting the Special General Convention held in Kathmandu, young leaders expressed strong dissatisfaction over the leadership’s delays and indecision, intensifying their demand for internal party reforms.
Youth leader Sachin Timilsina warned that if the leadership fails to change its behavior, the party organization will continue to weaken.
He criticized the tendency of extending Central Committee meetings for one and a half to two months. “Enough is enough. We are done with this kind of leadership. Stop the drama! Nineteen people were killed in the country, yet the meeting was extended as if nothing happened? If solutions are to be found only within a small circle, we will also consider alternatives. Today’s youth won’t accept everything blindly,” he said.
Moti Bhandari’s Warning: “The Party Cadres Will Demand Accountability!”
Youth leader Moti Bhandari expressed frustration at leaders who centralize power around a single individual and block reforms.
Noting that grassroots-level frustrations are increasing, he warned the leadership: “If indecision continues even during ongoing Central Committee meetings, the cadres at the lower level will demand accountability during elections or the General Convention. Keep that in mind!”
General Convention delegate Poonam Lama clarified that the demand for a Special General Convention—with signatures from 54% of the representatives—is constitutionally valid. “Our first demand is the Special General Convention. This is not emotional; it is a constitutional right. The 54% signatures confirm it,” she said.
The youth leaders have urged the party leadership to immediately initiate the process for the Special General Convention. Otherwise, their warning of seeking a new path has generated a new wave within the Nepali Congress.
