Youth activists staged a protest in Surkhet on Tuesday against UML leader Mahesh Basnet. Basnet had arrived in Surkhet to inaugurate the “Youth Awareness Campaign” organized by the National Youth Association of Nepal.
While the program was taking place inside the hall of the District Coordination Committee Surkhet, members of the Gen-Z group gathered outside and chanted slogans against Basnet.
The protesters held placards with various slogans opposing Basnet. Tension escalated after the youths attempted to disrupt the program. Anticipating possible clashes and security challenges, the local administration tightened security around the event venue.
Despite the protests, Basnet addressed the program, stating that the Youth Association’s campaign would play an important role in raising awareness, enhancing political participation, and promoting leadership development among the youths of Karnali Province.
