The Chief of Army Staff Open Marathon Competition 2082 concluded today at the Army Headquarters. The event was organized by the Nepal Army Physical Training and Sports Centre and inaugurated by Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel during a special ceremony.
This year’s competition was held under the slogan “Strong Unity, Secure Nation.” The event included a full marathon of 42.195 kilometers for men, as well as half marathons of 21 kilometers for both men and women. Winners of the full marathon will receive cash prizes of NPR 300,000 for first place, NPR 200,000 for second place, and NPR 100,000 for third place.
In the half marathon, both male and female winners will receive NPR 100,000 for first place, NPR 75,000 for second place, and NPR 50,000 for third place. A 10-kilometer race was also organized with participation from army officers, soldiers, employees of military institutions, serving and retired army personnel of all ranks, and children studying in grades 10 to 12.
A five-kilometer walkathon was held with the participation of Chief of Army Staff Sigdel along with military and civilian participants. Students from grades 7 to 9 studying at military schools also completed a five-kilometer race.
In the 10-kilometer and five-kilometer races, first, second, and third place winners in both men’s and women’s categories will receive cash prizes of NPR 10,000, NPR 7,000, and NPR 5,000 respectively.
The marathon has been organized annually since 2015 on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri and Army Day. This year marked the 11th edition of the competition, which featured five different race categories and saw the participation of around 2,500 runners. Maha Shivaratri and Army Day will be observed this year on Falgun 3.
