The Supreme Court of Nepal has begun hearing the writ filed against the cancellation of Resham Lal Chaudhary’s candidacy. The hearing is being conducted before a bench of Justices Sharanga Subedi and Tek Prasad Dhungana.
Earlier, on Magh 11, a single bench of Justice Bal Krishna Dhakal had ordered the Election Commission to submit a written response to the writ filed by Chaudhary. Both parties were also summoned for discussion regarding the interim order.
On Magh 15, a joint bench of Justices Bal Krishna Dhakal and Nrip Dhwaj Niraula instructed that files related to a prior conviction in a culpable homicide case be submitted in accordance with a previous order.
Following the completion of these formalities and receipt of the relevant files, the court scheduled today’s hearing for the interim order.
Chaudhary, the Patron of the Rastriya Unmukti Party Nepal, had filed his nomination for Kailali-1 for the upcoming House of Representatives election on Falgun 21, but the Election Commission had annulled his candidacy, prompting him to approach the Supreme Court.
